How clean pool sand filter?

This is an easy to clean filter type as you can simply pull out, clean and replace the pool filter cartridge. You need to take a few steps to make sure it’s done right. When you have all the supplies, take some time to clean the pool filter. The process can even extend overnight depending on how dirty the filter cartridge is.

turn off the pool pump first. If you have a timer make sure you remove anything that triggers the timer and turn the pump back on. You don’t want the pump to turn on again when you clean the filter cartridge. Remove air from the system for your own safety.

Alternatively, dilute one part muriate acid to 20 parts water in a 5 gallon bucket. Place the filters in the bucket and leave to soak overnight.. Check O-ring on filter tank. If it’s in good condition, lightly apply some lubricant to keep it that way.

If it has rotted dry or appears worn, replace. Rinse the cartridge thoroughly with water before reinserting it into the tank.. Put the cartridge back into the filter and secure it in place. Replace the top filter cover and close the clamps.

Turn the system back on and open the relief valve to release excess air in the system.. Keep the valve open until a steady stream of water comes out of the valve. Check the pressure gauge to make sure it is within the normal filter pressure range. If the pounds per square inch (PSI) is off, you may have reassembled the filter incorrectly or something else is wrong with the system.

Troubleshoot the pool filter system to identify the problem and. you can backwash the sand filter what you need to do if it hits 10 psi above normal operating level. It may also be time to clean the filter if you notice cloudy pool water. But at least once a year you need to dry clean your sand filter.
